Century old vines planted on Sandy soils over a clay base that have helped form gentle rolling slopes at high altitude. The vines are planted at 3m by 3m in order to help the vines survive the extremely dry conditions.

Toro is one of the oldest winemaking regions in Spain and has a long history of making great red wines. The grape Tinta de Toro is an evolved form of Tempranillo that has adapted to the extreme cold climate in Winter and incredibly hot and dry summers. It is a varietal that produces wines of intense colour with great structure and complex aromas. The region conserves wonderful old vineyards, many of which are well over 100 years old and have survived Phylloxera, the devasting plague that wiped out most of Europes vineyards at the end of the 19th Century. The sandy soils proved a vital ally for these Hardy vines during that difficult time. As a consequence of the combined effect of history, climate, soils and varietal, the yields found here are some of the lowest in the world!
