   Notes de dégustation

Peñafalcón Tinto de autor 2004 ”D.O. Ribera del Duero.

With this wine, this Peñafiel winery surprises me. A wine with 36 months in fine grade French and American oak barrels, medium plus roast and subsequent refinement in the bottle for years evolving in a reductive way.

It is a monovarietal wine of fine ink (tempranillo) with a careful selection of grapes, exclusively from old vines of different payments that the winery has in the Valladolid town of Peñafiel with manual and selected harvesting, both in the vineyard and in the winery.

The wine has been produced in a more "traditional" style and has gone through long aging in wooden barrels and also through various racking that oxygenates the wine, defining and refining it further. After the long oxidative aging in wood, they have continued with another long reductive aging in the bottle, so it is recommended to decant the wine for oxygenation.

This 2004 Tinto de Autor presents us with a slow evolution in color, it has a cherry color of medium layer with slightly evolved trim. Clean and bright, with abundant and fine tears that do not drag color in its fall.

On the nose it shows medium intensity, very elegant, with subtle aromas of red fruit in liquor and marked notes of well-ripened black fruit, slightly compote with tertiary aromas typical of its long stay in barrels (hides, musk, game animals ...) well combined with spicy, balsamic and mineral aromas.

In attack it shows great elegance, it is broad, with noble and ripe tannins, enveloping, good structure and a broad acidity that gives it freshness and life. The notes of its long aging in wood and in the bottle prevail along with the nuances of fruit nuances in liquor and spicy notes.

Long and persistent finish where the sensations previously observed are repeated
