PRODUCTION AREA

D.O. MONTSANT

This wine region is located in the heart of Priorat, in the South of Catalonia, in a mountainous area with low water retention slate and sand soils. Its climate is Mediterranean cold and dry, marked by the temperature differences between day and night.

WINEMAKING INFORMATION

Variety: 100% White Grenache.

Vineyards: Over 25 year old vines, planted in soils located between 300-450 meters of altitude.

The white Grenache had almost disappeared in the Priorat region a few years ago. Luckily we have widely replanted it and now produces grapes of high quality.

Harvest: The grapes we use to make CHARMIAN GARNATXA BLANCA are picked by hand in the early hours of the morning, before it becomes too hot. The grapes are harvested around 15th September.

Climate: Cold winters with some snowfall followed by hot, dry summers, giving excellent conditions for high quality White Grenache.

Winemaking: The grapes are stemmed and macerated for 6 to 8 hours. After, 90% of the juice goes to stainless steel tanks and the remaining 10% in French oak barrels. Once fermentation is completed, the juice left in the tanks is left to rest on its lees for 5 months and stirred daily and the other 10% is aged in oak barrels 5 months as well and stirred once a week. When this process ends, we proceed to the blend, stabilization, filtering and bottling.

TASTING NOTES

It has a beautiful, luminous and clean yellow color with lively greenish shades. On the nose it is elegantly perfumed, offering a hint of acacia flowers as well as orange blossom and a touch of citric fruit. Little by little, spicy notes appear as well as smoky oak hints with a touch of vanilla and mineral tones left there by the slate-based soils of the Priorat region. On the palate, this wine is silky and lively with a touch of citric fruit with a well rounded acidity making its long finish very refreshing.

FOOD & WINE PAIRING

Great with fish dishes, rice, salads and pasta. It also combines well with roast chicken or chicken casserole.

SERVING RECOMMENDATIONS

Best served between 10ºC and 12ºC (50F to 53,6F)
