Issue 2611, December 2013 (Vintage 2012)

Wine Review Online • 92 An ex this wine is produced from purchased grafes from vineyards averaging 25 years old. Winemaker, Enrique Piñeiro works with around 30 small growers in the Fal do Salnes sub-region of Rias Baixas, some with holdings as small as half a hectare. All of the fruit for this wine is hand harvested in small boxes. After cluster sorting the grapes are whole cluster pressed in a pneumatic press, followed by settling of the must with dry ice. The wine was fermented at 64º F in stainless steel tank. Ther is no malolactic fermentation. Aged for almost 2 months on fine lees. Emplary rendition of Albariño, Spain’s premier white grapes variety, this shows lots of rich, softly ripe peach fruit. However, the initial impression of ripeness almost immediately gives way to a more interesting profile as the wine shows its structural spine of driving acidity, as well as a faint effervescence from unresolved carbon dioxie that provides additional lift and textural definition

Issue August 4, 2009 (Vintage 2008)

The Wine Advocate • 88 The best of the rio is the 2009 Esencia Diviña Albariño, a vineyard selection from both estate and purchased fruit. Its nose reveals mineral, saline ( a whiff of sea salt), lemon, and spring flowers leading to a wine with more focus and definition as well as a lengthier finish. These Albariños shoulds be consumed over the next 2-3 years.
